well, once again I find myself trying out mobile blogging from my smartphone in anticipation of future trips away from my Mac.

keying in messages using T9 predictive text is fairly tedious but ok for short posts.

so this is a short post…

Thanks to Dave Walker over at CartoonChurch.com for this one.

MiniG-T has developed an interest in football. This definitely did not come from my side of the family.

For Christmas he was regaled with football-related gifts from friends and relatives all-too-keen to pounce on an interest that was both known, and for which presents were easily obtainable. So, every Friday afternoon MrsG-T and MicroG-T accompany MiniG-T to a local sports centre that is well known for having a really good indoor pitch for training.

Last week I had occasion to take him, and I was impressed as he jogged into the sports centre in his tracksuit, with full England (argh!) strip on underneath. Including shin pads and everything!

He was a really impressive player. Fast, brave and agile. The coach was very good, and is introducing a new skill each week. Last week it was tackling, and it was great to see him tackle absolutely anyone up to and including the coach with seemingly no fear. And he was quite successful in getting the ball too. I think he’s great, despite not knowing a huge amount about the game.

Anyway, this week when I arrived home from work I was greeted by the picture you see above. My wee lad won the trophy for ‘Player of the Week.’

How proud am I?

I might have to actually start learning something about the game. Oh, and try and get an appropriately sized Scotland strip when I’m in the Auld Country next month…

I like Salvadore Vincent and his blog – his entries are not particularly regular but when he posts a new one it’s always worth reading.

See the entry for today for an example.

If, like me, you have found Formula 1 to be a bit boring for the last few years (with the possible exception of this last year) then you need to get into the World Rally Championship.

Don’t know what it is? Cars that you might recognise (Subaru Impreza, Ford Focus etc.) with chavtastic rear spoilers doing quite astounding speed along narrow tracks on a variety of road surfaces.

And the great thing this year is that finally a TV channel have put together a decent, reliable schedule during daylight hours! BIG round of applause for Dave (possibly the daftest name for a TV channel to date) who are showing a regular series on Sunday evenings at 6pm. Today’s edition was an introduction to the teams, drivers and Monte Carlo rally, which takes place next week.

Find out more here, and watch the program next Sunday evening at 6pm. Freeview Channel 19, Virgin cable 126 or Sky 111.

The official WRC website is here.

(I used to own a Subaru, and so am slightly biased towards the team. My hero, Colin McRae, also won the British and World Championships in Subaru cars.)
